The short film Les Rites de Passage by Florian Fischer and Johannes Krell has received the German Film and Media Review’s (FBW) highest rating, “Highly Recommended”.
In its statement, the jury particularly praised the suggestive power of the cinematography and the film’s thematic depth.
People like to look into space in the hope of gaining new insights, yet know far too little about the planet on which they live. Here, stars become peepholes onto dying, petrified forests and trees whose bark is peeling away. The Earth has always been in a state of change, but human-induced change has taken on a new dimension. (…) Through image and sound, the film creates a pull that is impossible to resist. The inventiveness of its imagery and visual motifs is immense, and the way the camera observes these objects and subjects has an impressively suggestive power.
With Les Rites de Passage, Florian Fischer and Johannes Krell have created a visually and thematically exceptional short film that, according to the jury, “can be read as a commentary on the Anthropocene”.
