DOP Maxi Richter

Maxi Richter’s artistic practice has grown out of a range of experiences in design, photography, and film. In 2012, she studied industrial design with a focus on “Playing & Learning” at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. She subsequently worked as a children’s photographer, founded a café—today’s Café Ludwig in Halle—and held various positions in the film industry. She now works as a freelance artist.

Last Year in Utopia documents an experimental set-up: a staged group media experiment, isolated from the outside world, is reconstructed on the site where the original events unfolded. The boundaries between autonomy and heteronomy dissolve in new role assignments as the film makes the power structure behind the artificially created utopia visible.
