Der Film liefert eine überspitzte Darstellung des Verhältnisses der Frauen zu ihren Tieren. So wird die einzelne Frau zur anonymen Masse, die gemeinsam gesprochenen Sätze zu sinnentleerten Phrasen.

Synopsis

Self-portraits featuring one's own pet can be found as far back as the Renaissance. Painters such as Frans van Mieris the Elder produced portraits of affluent women with their lapdogs. Even then, the dog served as a vehicle of representation, embodying beauty, fidelity and elegance. Today's pet owner no longer needs a painter to stage her image. A YouTube clip can be recorded in moments with a handheld camera and made available to a vast public in just a few clicks, ready for immediate comment and evaluation. In both cases, the animal becomes an object of prestige that reinforces the woman's self-presentation. MY BBY 8L3W addresses the mass proliferation of these videos, offering a deliberately exaggerated portrait of the women's relationships with their animals. Within the film, the individual woman dissolves into an anonymous crowd, while sentences spoken in chorus become phrases emptied of meaning.
