Synopsis

BITING THE DUST is a found-footage film that turns to a recurring debate within Christian communities on social media: is there a place for animals in the afterlife? The Bible offers no clear answer. Numerous online preachers cite particular passages as proof that there is, winning applause from animal lovers. At least as many reject the idea, invoking entirely different verses. For them, animals have no souls. The film opens a window onto social and religious image worlds riddled with contradiction, examining how social media increasingly mobilises dazzling visions of the hereafter along the fault line between fear and fearlessness. Against the resurgence of religious right-wing worldviews, this question acquires particular urgency in an age of climate crisis.
