Tiger Short Competition Les Rites de Passage Captivates Rotterdam

Les Rites de Passage by Florian Fischer and Johannes Krell celebrated its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The experimental short film was shown in three sold-out screenings as part of the Tiger Short Competition programme.

We could not have wished for a better place for our film’s world premiere! IFFR audiences bring an extraordinary openness to experimental forms.

– Florian Fischer

In Les Rites de Passage, natural processes merge with cultural narratives. The film shows the slow decay of monocultural forests, the traces of a fossil past and ritual acts that have endured for millennia. Through precisely composed images, plays of light and minimalist layers of sound, it becomes a cinematic reflection on transience, transformation and humanity’s relationship with the environment.

Les Rites de Passage is a production by ROSENPICTURES Filmproduktion GbR, supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) and FFA reference funding.

Les Rites de Passage

14 Min., Experimentalfilm , Kurzfilm

A cloud of ash settles softly upon the currents of a river. Light enters the heart of a tree through a myriad of tiny holes. Monoculture forests succumb to parasites and become fertile ground for forms of life still to come. A film about earthly and mythological passages through becoming and decay.
