Johannes Krell explores the possibilities of audiovisual perception through experimental, music, and art films. Born in Halle (Saale), the author and media artist studied philosophy and art history at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and audiovisual media and cinematography at Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology. After graduating, he worked as a cinematographer, editor, and sound designer, took part in Werkleitz’s Professional Media Master Class in 2013, and completed postgraduate studies in experimental film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne in 2018. Umbra, a joint project with Florian Fischer, received the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 69th Berlinale in 2019. Krell lives and works in Leipzig.

Monoculture forests succumb to parasites and become fertile ground for forms of life still to come. A film about earthly and mythological passages through becoming and decay.
