Synopsis

In 2003, a reckless decision placed a mountain in central Germany in our hands. Located in Thuringia, south of Jena on the B88, it had been one of the largest ammunition depots of East Germany's National People's Army in Central Europe during the Cold War; in the event of armed conflict between East and West Germany, it would have supplied the eastern side with the necessary munitions. The film tells the story of the mountain—a story that also mirrors German history—and of our own entanglement with it. What emerges is a kaleidoscope of socialist and capitalist fantasies and realities, of wounded landscapes and societies, and of the forces that drive us all.
