Synopsis

LAKE OF FIRE confronts humanity's fear of death and the ways religion manipulates it. The film presents ecstatic preachers who proclaim faith in an all-powerful saviour as the only path beyond death—threatening eternal damnation in hell to those who refuse. Documentary footage of sermons on hell's torments is combined with images of exorcisms and burning forests, revealing how, alongside the believers' fatalistic and God-fearing worldview, the destruction of nature is opening up a very real “hell on Earth”. LAKE OF FIRE indicts the devastating consequences of anthropocentric religions for the planet and casts a critical eye on the global environmental crisis.
