Synopsis

Yann (50), a photographer and newly divorced, meets Alicia (38) in a bar. Their instant attraction soon becomes an affair. When Alicia leaves her husband and moves in with Yann, the relationship rapidly begins to unravel. Yann's twelve-year-old daughter Thilda, who lives with his ex-wife, instinctively rejects Alicia, whose behaviour swings between narcissism and borderline patterns. Despite his resistance, Yann is unable to cope with the situation. A chance encounter with Tabea (40), with whom he begins a sexual relationship, becomes an attempt at escape. His bond with Tabea deepens, yet he cannot sever himself from Alicia, who appears to be pregnant with his child; the relationship with Tabea collapses. Alicia, meanwhile, has fallen in love with another man. Psychological abysses, without a filter. A duel: narcissism meets co-dependency. In time, both protagonists spiral into depression, exhausted and resigned to one another.

Das mit knapp zwei Stunden überlange Werk gönnt keine Verschnaufpausen oder entlastende Momente. Die Figuren des depressiv-manisch anmutenden Dramas arbeiten sich schonungslos aneinander ab. Ihr verzweifeltes, auch selbstgefälliges Verharren in einer gnadenlosen Hölle verbreitet bittere Resignation.
