Filmfestival Pyongyang International Film Festival
The Pyongyang International Film Festival was established in 1987 and is one of the few internationally oriented cultural events in North Korea. Originally launched as a festival for non-participating countries, it later opened its doors to a broader international field. Held every two years in the capital, Pyongyang, the festival primarily showcases feature films, documentaries, and animated works – often complemented by state-produced films that offer insights into the country's cultural self-presentation.
